The Interf Acial Transition Zone: "direct" Evidence on Compressive Response
نویسنده
چکیده
There is little question that the strength of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between cement paste and aggregate affects the compressive strength of concrete. The key question, rather, is to what degree? It is difficult to directly measure the response of the overall composite to changes in interfacial properties, since it is difficult to isolate interfacial strength as the only variable. Research on the effects of interfacial strength on the compressive response of concrete that comes the closest to providing direct evidence is summari7.Cd. The studies, dating to the 1950's, include both experimental and analytical efforts aimed at isolating the effects of the ITZ, as well as experimental efforts that are considered to provide strong indirect evidence. The research shows that the ITZ plays a measurable role in the response of concrete to compressive stress, but that its role is overshadowed by the properties of the cement paste and aggregate constituents of concrete and the heterogeneous nature of the composite.

Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete Containing Pumice and Metakaolin
Fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) has been widely used due to its advantages over plain concrete such as high energy absorption, post cracking behaviour, flexural and impact strength and arresting shrinkage cracks. But there is a weak zone between fibers and paste in fiber reinforced concretes and this weak zone is full of porosity, especially in hybrid fiber reinforced concretes. So it is necess...

In order to investigate the effects of microwave curing on the microstructure of the interfacial transition zone of mortar prepared with a composite binder containing glass powder and to explain the mechanism of microwave curing on the improvement of compressive strength, in this study, the compressive strength of mortar under microwave curing was compared against mortar cured using (a) normal ...

The stress configuration and tectonic analysis of the Pan – African orogeny is drawn from the Igarra schist belt, southwestern Nigeria. The analysis of conjugate shear fractures of the schist belt indicates that two distinct compressive events (NE – SW and E – W) occurred in this Pan – African mobile zone. The palaeostress systems reveal a clockwise rotation of compressional axis from D1 (NE – ...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of the Effect of External Circumferential Elliptical Cracks in Transition Thickness Zone of Pressurized Pipes Using XFEM
The present work investigates the effect of the elliptical three-dimensional (3D) cracks on a pipe with thickness transition, considering internal pressure. Level sets were defined using the extended finite element method (XFEM), the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of 3D cracks were investigated and compared between straight pipes and pipes with thickness transition. The results show that the X...

In this paper, metamorphic conditions (T, P and fluid composition) in greenschist to amphibolite facies transition zone are investigated using textural evidence, compositions of the minerals and phase diagrams. Metabasits from the south of Kordestan province were metamorphosed from sub-greenschist to upper amphibolite facies. Field observations and petrography studies show that there are some r...
